Staying Home: Day 54

I picked another new route for our walk this morning, taking us across the fields and over a bridge across the main road which bypasses our town - a bridge I hadn't even known was there until today. We did a short circle round a small wood which belongs to the estate which for hundreds of years (from the early 14th century to the 19th century) was owned by the same family, lords of the manor of the neighbouring village. At some point one of them, or their successors, had planted rhododendrons, which were rather startling in any otherwise very English wood.

On our way back we crossed the road and I spotted these flowers by the steps where the path led back up to a field on the opposite side. I'm pretty certain they are chicory

This has been another beautiful, warm and sunny day, though the forecast says the temperature will drop from 23 degrees (C) today to 14 tomorrow and just 11 on Monday. I spent most of the afternoon in the garden, either reading or sewing. H lay in the sun for a while, then exercised before going back to her studying.

TG did two online dance classes. The first was a masterclass with a former pupil of her dance school, the second was with a member of the Next Step cast. This was a workshop privately arranged by another dance school, who made some places available for TG's dance teacher to offer to her own pupils. The Next Step is a TV series about a fictional Canadian dance troupe, which is a big favourite of TG's - when they toured the UK last year I took he to watch their live show, so this was a lovely opportunity. Amazing what can be done during lockdown!

M and I did a bit of online shopping. He ordered some new trousers from Marks and Spencer, and we ordered a new ironing board from Argos - our current one is literally falling apart, with wobbly legs and the cover held on by elastic bands. We had pre-ordered fish and chips for dinner, so H and I went out to collect them. Rumour has it that the garage where our little car is stranded is planning to re-open in a few days, so hopefully she will be mobile again soon. After dinner H and I did a bit more of our jigsaw - it is a much tougher one than the coral reef one we did first - and M and I watched The Darkest Hour on TV, with Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill in his early days as Prime Minister.
