Staying Home: Day 83

Another weekend gone by too fast, with a busy week to come with freelance work to do as well as archives. I stayed up far too late last night, playing with javascript trying to make maps to the things I wanted them to do. Really I should have waited until tomorrow's work time, but I turned on my laptop to do something else and my fingers were twitching to get back to the puzzle - then somehow it was three hours later!

We went for a walk this morning while the weather was reasonable, dry and at times quite warm. This time we went across the fields and over the bridge which crosses the main road around the town. We passed an oak tree with a line of old tyres embedded next to it. I'm intrigued to know why they are there - I can't come up with any plausible explanation.

By lunch time it started to rain and the afternoon was wet. H drove over to see her old school friends - they are a close knit group of four, and haven't seen each other since well before the lockdown. They met in one friend's garden, which fortunately had a covered area. Her BF went down to the park to meet some of his friends but didn't last long because of the rain. When he got back we started talking about family history and doing a bit of digging around on Ancestry for his family. We found a flying record card for his grandfather (with a photo), his great-grandfather's WW1 medal card, and discovered that his family originated in Shropshire.

When H got back from her trip out she and I (mostly her!) cooked a roast chicken dinner. This evening we did a Zoom quiz with some close friends who either work with me at the archives or used to work there. One friend is a good quiz mistress and had written this particular set of questions for members of her choir, so was able to re-run them for us. We keep in touch regularly with group messages, but it was nice to see them on screen. As far as the quiz was concerned, let's just say we didn't exactly cover ourselves in glory!

TG went out for the evening to hang out in her friend's garden as an early birthday celebration - it will be her 14th birthday tomorrow. Another friend joined them and they had pizza delivered. Fortunately the rain stopped before she got there and she insists she wasn't too cold.
